Paisley Abbey

This pen and watercolour was painted for a dear friend as a gift. She grew up in Paisley and lived a stone's throw from the abbey for many years. Now, living in North West England, she has it as a reminder of her home town. 

This was my first painting of the historic buildings of Paisley…the one that inspired the Paisley Collection.

Kingsbarns Beach

The client wanted a painting of the Kingsbarns Beach, a favourite spot, where her mum walks her dog. So, I picked a view of the beach that showed a few landmarks, the rocks, treeline and outcrop of land, that would distinguish it from any other beach. The client then provided pictures of her mum with her dog, which provided a focal point for the painting. 

It took two attempts to get the sky and reflections in the water right, but I really enjoyed painting this. I learnt a lot from doing this painting.

Abstract Portrait

The client wanted a portrait with a difference. The Caran D’ache Luminance pencils brought an amazing vibrancy to the colours and really made the portrait pop.

Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle as seen from The Vennel in pen and watercolour. Painted from a photograph by Connor Mollison as a birthday gift. I loved the perspective of Connor’s photograph, different from the usual views of the castle.

Scotland Street School

Scotland Street School Museum, Glasgow, was formerly a school, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh between 1903-1906, it was a functioning school up until 1979. 

This painting was commissioned by a client whose mother had been a pupil at the school.

Bay of Assos

The beautiful Bay of Assos on the island of Cephalonia, Greece. On the opposite side of the bay from the town is Assos Castle. The castle stands on the top of a 170m high rocky hill, which encompasses the entire peninsula of Assos. The castle is protected by a wall of 2000 meters length, and covers an area of 44,000 sq. meters. The castle is open daily with no entry fee. You can make the accent to the castle via the renovated stone path or take the adventurous route up the perilous cliff path. 

This is one of my favourite ‘chill out’ holiday destinations. Apparently, it’s one of my client’s as well.
